Ah so here we are, home and still living, coming out of the other side of another near-miss. Tired and overwhelmed, and struggling to understand and accept this entire past week.
Mystery infection... She was fine on Sunday morning, a bit grumpy at lunch time, and by evening she was in Special Care, hand swollen to more than twice its normal size, with 8 wires coming out of her, drifting out of consciousness and with a heart rate of 200bpm.
The doctor has referred to her as "a highly allergic little person" and the bacteria that caused the infection as "normal skin bacteria". It took two days for her to start to improve, and by that time her whole arm was engulfed - the swelling came right up to her shoulder before it started to go down.
I don't know how we're still here, I really don't. But we're home after a hellish week (over twenty hours of hysterical baby while they tried and tried to get IV lines in, all of which she pulled out again) and she is on the mend. Back to the hospital in a couple of days, to see if the oral meds are doing enough, and probably to get scans as well to check her joints aren't infected too. :(
oh honey. I am so glad she appears to be on the mend. You do not need this at all at the minute! I can only send virtual hugs your way, but know that they are many!!
Poor little girl, I am thinking of you all, her poor arm looks so shiny and swollen, hoping you all recover from this both healthwise and emotionally as soon as possible. Love Clair xx
Poor, poor rowan, and poor you! We're all really glad she's recovering - hope you have a chance over the weekend to chill out a bit and regain some equilibrium.
How terrifying :-( do they think it was cellulitis then? Poor love :-( Glad you're home and the swelling and infection are receeeding. Fingers crossed the hospital visit shows everything si going back to normal.
That's the diagnosis we've come home with, but the specialists weren't 100% convinced - I think we're as close as we'll ever get to knowing for sure!
She has looked so big recently, but now she looks so very tiny and fragile. She's such a baby, and I can't possibly make her understand that everyone is trying to help her. She looks betrayed every time I get out the antibiotics. :S
How frightening for you all. Keeping you all in our thoughts. And wishing Rowan a complete recovery, as well as a run of seriously good fortune which you are now way overdue for!
So glad you and Rowan are back home where you belong. What a horrible time for you all. We are keeping you in our prayers and hope things continue to improve xx
My heart is aching just looking at those pictures, I can't begin to imagine how all of you must be feeling. Sending much love and healing thoughts. xxxxxx
She looks really ill and bewildered in those pictures - poor poor wee girl. Hugs and blessing to you Sarah - being in the Sick Kids is so awful. i hope they looked after you too xx
what a scary ordeal for you all to go through and how horrible it is to have to watch such a little one go through medical procedures but at least you're all home & safe now. Thinking of you all, and wishing for a very speedy recovery x
So sorry to see those pics of Rowan you must be absolutely shattered. Offering prayers for her healing and peace for you all Love, Hugs and God's Blessing on you all San and all xxxx
Oh your poor little Rowan, she looks so sad and fragile in those pictures, how heartbreaking and she really does look so small too. I hope she heals fast hun and things start to look up, here if you need me... x
Oh Sarah, I really feel for you. I am a bit like Rowan and at the age of 2 I had my first anaphyllactic shock. I know what my Mum and Dad went through and it has to be the most frightening thing as a parent. Having just found that Warren has a peanut allergy (though thankfully mild at the moment) I am starting to have the same worries myself.
It has been a really tough year for you all, it just doesn't seem fair. It would be lovely to see you when you have the strength. Warren often speaks of Morgan and Jenna - they made a real impression on him!
Oh, Bless her little soul. We have been thinking of you all this week. Sending healing gentle thoughts to you all today...
