Yarn Along: socks and hats

I have been knitting like crazy this week.  I have commissions I want to get done in timely fashion before the weather turns cold, and I had a sudden urge to make pixie hats - and when the urge to knit something strikes, I harness it fast before it leaves me with a half finished something or other again.  ;)

One great thing at the moment is that I always have an excuse to knit something random just because I feel like it: "It's for the shop!"  One bad thing about this is that my to-do list gets longer while I indulge myself (another is that I need to actually sell the randomness that my addled brain comes up with)!

Anyhow...  Socks!  I have officially mastered two at a time socks.  Officially.  :)  In four days I have knit two pairs (and two hats).  I turned both heels on the second pair on our trip back from Lincoln where we spent a blissful day with friends.

Still reading fairy tales, and lots of different things to Jenna!  A couple of days ago I found her snuggled up on the sofa with Morgan, reading The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark to her.  Now that is just heart-achingly sweet.  I wish I had a picture of it, but just couldn't bear to disturb them.  <3>

  1. Wow that is fast knitting, my socks are a bit slower than that!

    1. I'm very persistent. And they are only Roo size. Adult ones take me *at least* four times as long. Plus I can't work on only socks, have to have something else at the same time!

    1. Thankyou! The blue ones are my favourites, but the Autumny ones are so snuggly and fluffy. :)

  3. how do you do the 2 socks at a time? on a magic loop long needle or one inside the other. Socks are on the cards after next week!!

    1. Yes, it's magic loop one after the other - you cast on half the stitches for the first sock, then all the stitches for the second, then move half of those down the needle to create your first loop, then cast on the rest of the stitches of sock one. So you're working a, b, B, A. It also means you do one heel, then right away start the second heel, no time to feel the fear. ;) I watched a friend do it a few times, then watched youtube while I was casting on like that for the first time!

    2. It sounds like you do a complicated version, I just cast on all of sock a then all of b. It means that the end of my round is when the needles are between the socks, not both at one end. Although having said that, not sure if my version is a little more complicated when it comes to turning the heel. I just guess it all depends on what source you learn from. But two at a time is definitely my favourite sanity preserving technique for socks... Which reminds me, I havent knit socks for ages. It's certainly approaching the season for wearing handknit socks. :)

  4. This may sound silly... but how do you knit the socks, so that they'll be elastic enough to stay on?

    1. They are! And the second pair now have their ends sewn in and are ready to list. :)
