The animation and style is a little like Totoro, but the content much older (not as scary as Spirited Away, but some violence and a fairly disturbing monster) and the backgrounds are full of gorgeous Celtic knotwork. It was right on target for Jenna, and really resonated with her. Nope, can't resist, I have to show you (Pangur Ban is the name of the cat):
Jenna sat here this morning learning the Gaelic poem Aisling the Fae sings;
You must go where I can not,
Pangur Ban Pangur Ban,
Nil sa saol seo ach ceo,
Is ni bheimid beo,
ach seal beag gearr.
Pangur Ban Pangur Ban,
Nil sa saol seo ach ceo,
Is ni bheimid beo,
ach seal beag gearr.
It translates, "all in life is mist, we are only a fog, and we are in this world but a short sharp while". Hauntingly beautiful. :)
It is truely amazing this film, so glad you enjoyed it too!
ReplyDeleteOooh I've been wanting to see this!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so beautiful I'm going to buy it as soon as funds allow. It had its moments story-wise, but really it was the art that so attracted me to it. :)
