Yarn Along - a trying-not-to-wallow post

DSC01964

My biggest baby is away this week, and I'm missing her company very much.  We have settled back in to friendship after some months of uneasy boundary-pushing, figuring out how we relate as she gets more independent, working out our roles as we dance the give-and-take of learning together.  It's strange not having her here suddenly, just for a week though it feels longer.  We're not used to being apart much and I think it's good for us now and again.  Before she left I quickly crocheted her up a cowl as defence against the coastal breezes, in yarn that she dyed with me.  :)

This week my knitting has mostly been whipping up two of these leafy hats (which I really will write down the pattern for, some day) for the shop; I love these hats, but getting Talia to sit still for one second to get a good photograph is just asking too much!

Look at that cheeky little creature!  She finally has four teeth on the bottom row now, I noticed this morning. She's the only one of us not stressed out about the Mister losing his job (and the attendant despair over our finances just as we were finally back in control of our money).  We don't even know how my little fledgeling business will impact on welfare payments and how that is all going to work under the ill-explained new system.  Somehow, we'll figure things out.  I don't want to apply for outside work, but at least Talia doesn't much mind me being away from her if I do need to.

Not much time for reading in all of that, but I did finish the Percy Jackson series (annoying) and read another of The Mysterious Benedict Society books (nerdy and awesome) which I was checking out for Jenna.  I have some Kate Griffin novels (the Matthew Swift series) which I'm enjoying but finding slow going and slightly self-absorbed but not *entirely* undeserving of the comparison with Neverwhere (which is high praise, so perhaps almost cancels out my complaints about them)!

Joining in with Ginny and friends.

    1. Thanks! My daughter is fine, she's enjoying her holiday with grandma, and the give-and-take figuring-things-out is something I'm comfortable with (at least, when it eases)! :)

Your little miss looks so adorable and full of fun. :) That hat is just so cute on her. I'm waiting for that day when you write up the pattern, it could even get me knitting again.

  9. (((Hugs))). We are in a similar situation...dh has been out of work since just before Christmas. Things are tough and I'm praying he'll find a job before I have to. It will break my heart to leave ds2... can't even bear to think about it right now... But not sure I or our house is up to child minding again and although I can do other things from home... It won't bring in a full time wage. Much love. Skye-Blu Xxxxxxx

    1. It's so stressful, I have never been so terrified of being in poverty in this country but the welfare reforms are making me crazy, I cannot decide what it is that is wanted from us!! (big hugs, and best of luck to hubby in his job search) xx

  11. :-( Sorry to read that he lost his job. Seems a huge over reaction :-( Still, time to move on I guess. On the upside the new Universal Tax Credits won't be rolled out till next year now. So bit of a breather that way.

Martin will find another job soon; perhaps he needs a few weeks to recover from, what I can only imagine, has been an ordeal. Do give him a hug from me, Hun. And hugs for you too.

    Blessings.

  12. ((Sarah)) Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time atm. Money worries are never nice (hubby seems to be up for redundency yearly here so we have a lot of breath holding!). Really hope Martin finds some work soon and in the meantime you get to enjoy some extra time together! Hope Jenna enjoyed her time away too!

    1. What really sucks is thinking that you *have* that something better, a job you really love, and then it all blows up anyway! Struggling not to feel bitter on his behalf still haha.

Thanks for the compliments on the hats, they really are very simple but sweet in pretty much any incarnation. My favourite so far was handspun and bright yellow! :)
